Sin City
Today I watched Sin City in the TITAN THEATRE at CSU Fullerton! It was actually quite better than I thought it would have been. Bruce Willis is a phenomenal actor in general, and Jessica Alba is, well, sexy. The film is shown in black and white with color once in awhile for emphasis and such. For example, all things that were red -blood- were shown as red and sometimes to emphasize a situation or to accent the way an actor/actress looked, color was added. This movie, unique from other comics made into movies, still had the comic flavor to it. Parts of the movie made you understand that the setting was not quite reality. For example, the cars moved at an unrealistic acceleration and decceleration.... people fell from great heights and landed with only a few scratches. The movie takes place in stages: It begins with one story, and then cuts to an entirely different story, and then to another different story, and then intertwines the different stories into the same setting. This can get confusing if you aren't ready for it, because the movie itself doesn't really prepare you for the changes in scenes.
One of the characters looked like an agile cat-like, Harry Potter/Frodo and one of the other characters looked like someone you'd see on StarTrek. This merely adds to the enjoyment by making the thrilling adventuresome movie lighten with comedy. i.e. who wouldn't laugh at seeing Harry Potter -popular for his british-ness and magic- fight like a possessed person? Oh, and if you love Jessica Alba because you just think that she's down-right HOT and Sexy, then this is definitely your kind of movie. I'm sure you'll agree when you see Jessica dancing in the pub.
There are quite a few scenes that show nudity, but its not unflavorful and it doesn't go overboard. It's not like it's porn, it's used to set the scenes and attitude of the storyline.
Is this movie one that I recommend? No. As original as this type of movie is, Sin City could easily be outranked in the element of enjoyment by other movies. Although, if you want a broad variety of movie styles, Sin City fulfills many genres: Thriller, Action, Drama are three of its main ones. Still, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a passion for comics. Unless you're a comic fan seeking originality, don't watch Sin City and expect the most of your experience. I would rate this movie a 6 our of 10 (1=worst, 10= best). I would only recommend movies that I rated 7 and above.
