Transporter 2

In this movie, sequel to The Transporter, Jason Straham does an amazing job portraying Frank Martin -a calm, keep-it-cool kind of guy that lives by a set of rules that he created-. An ex-Special Forces operative, nothing is quite to hard for him to handle. And he does everything with style. He reminds me of a rebel-James Bond, but with much more martial arts capabilities. This time he has to deal with obtaining a vaccination for a biological-warfare virus to save a boy that he promised he would never let harm come upon. One of his rules that he lives by is "Always keep promises." Which, it pretty much the backbone of the entire movie.
"Frank" has an amazing bullet-proof Audi that just about anyone would die to have, after watching this movie. Another car featured in this movie is a Lambourgini, but...I'll just say that it doesn' last very long.
The biggest downsides of the movie are its special effects scenes which look completely fake. Everything else was pretty good. Lots of suspense. Creative ways of kicking-asses...with a fire hose for example. The movie ended smoothly...but it leaves you with an oportunity for a sequel to this sequel, when he gets a phone call requesting a transporter.
Not bad.

Four Brothers

I just watched Four Brothers at the Block on Monday night. Generally, I thought the movie was good.

Four Brothers is a Crime Drama starring Andre 3000, Tyrese Gibson, Mark Wahlberg (aka Marky Mark), and Garrett Hedlund. The plot is simple as is the entire movie: A woman that adopted 4 children is killed. These children are grown men at this point, and they decide to take revenge on their mom's killers.

The four brothers portray the stereotypical traits of a family. Mark Wahlberg is seen as the hard/don't-take-shit-from-anyone type. Tyrese Gibson is that stud that's girl crazy. Andre is the entrepreneur that is trying to do something with his life even in light of his past. And finally, Garrett Hedlund plays the part of an emotional and possibly homosexual kid -he doesn't act gay, but he's referred to with homosexual slang by his oldest brother multiple times throughout the movie.

You should watch the movie if the following description sounds like you: You like movies that have to do with revenge. You like/don't mind blood, violence, or weapons. You don't mind a little bit of slang and cursing. You don't want a movie that will make you have to think hard. You hate Alfred Hitchcock endings (endings that leave you hanging to end the story however you want in you head). You like gangsters. You hate gangsters. You like action without long breaks of "boringness" inbetween. You like stories where the "tables turn." You like latina women. You like the concept of black and white persons together as family.

The thing I like most about this movie is that it was satisfying. Why? Well, this might seem odd, but it's true. I got what I had expected. I wasn't left with any profound questions to linger on. This type of movie is good when you're busy and don't have the patience to "figure out" the movie or when you have enough to think about already and you just want to watch something explode or die.

I liked it. I know that some of you didn't like it so let me know what you thought of it.

Sin City

Today I watched Sin City in the TITAN THEATRE at CSU Fullerton! It was actually quite better than I thought it would have been. Bruce Willis is a phenomenal actor in general, and Jessica Alba is, well, sexy. The film is shown in black and white with color once in awhile for emphasis and such. For example, all things that were red -blood- were shown as red and sometimes to emphasize a situation or to accent the way an actor/actress looked, color was added. This movie, unique from other comics made into movies, still had the comic flavor to it. Parts of the movie made you understand that the setting was not quite reality. For example, the cars moved at an unrealistic acceleration and decceleration.... people fell from great heights and landed with only a few scratches. The movie takes place in stages: It begins with one story, and then cuts to an entirely different story, and then to another different story, and then intertwines the different stories into the same setting. This can get confusing if you aren't ready for it, because the movie itself doesn't really prepare you for the changes in scenes.

One of the characters looked like an agile cat-like, Harry Potter/Frodo and one of the other characters looked like someone you'd see on StarTrek. This merely adds to the enjoyment by making the thrilling adventuresome movie lighten with comedy. i.e. who wouldn't laugh at seeing Harry Potter -popular for his british-ness and magic- fight like a possessed person? Oh, and if you love Jessica Alba because you just think that she's down-right HOT and Sexy, then this is definitely your kind of movie. I'm sure you'll agree when you see Jessica dancing in the pub.

There are quite a few scenes that show nudity, but its not unflavorful and it doesn't go overboard. It's not like it's porn, it's used to set the scenes and attitude of the storyline.

Is this movie one that I recommend? No. As original as this type of movie is, Sin City could easily be outranked in the element of enjoyment by other movies. Although, if you want a broad variety of movie styles, Sin City fulfills many genres: Thriller, Action, Drama are three of its main ones. Still, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a passion for comics. Unless you're a comic fan seeking originality, don't watch Sin City and expect the most of your experience. I would rate this movie a 6 our of 10 (1=worst, 10= best). I would only recommend movies that I rated 7 and above.
